Motivational Interviewing with Stoke on Trent City Council, Jan 2025. “By far the best and most interactive training I have ever attended."

And I’m back! Suitably refreshed from my Christmas break and now raring to go. This week I had the pleasure of training a cohort of staff from Stoke on Trent City Council, as you all know – my old stomping ground. The class comprised of newly qualified social workers, social workers and an array of family support workers. A clearly committed group, who were very UP for the training. Stoke has invested it’s time and energy in upskilling the staff and it was very clear that the learners were motivated to learn.

This version of the newly revamped Inspiring Change – Motivational Interviewing course has been created bespoke for the learners from Stoke. It includes all new interactive activities, brand new films and a focus on ‘the voice of the child.’ I think the learners were impressed with the course, well, read for yourself…

“I can honestly say that this has been BRILLIANT training, I even enjoyed the practical nature of the course when usually I despise them! It was really good to see the films that Steve has created that demonstrate the ways in which Motivational Interviewing can benefit families. Thank you Steven.”

“A great interactive training course that I will use within my SW practice going forward.”

“I had heard about Motivational Interviewing and I always thought it sounded intimidating. This course has helped me break it down and understand it – finally! This will be VERY useful for me. Also, as an active learner the practical nature of the course really helped my learning.”

“This was a really helpful course and has given me lots of techniques that I can use with the families that I’m working with in Stoke. Also, very entertaining and my knowledge of both Motivational Interviewing and STI’s greatly improved!”

“This training was very informative and helpful as it gave me the ideas on how I can speak and listen better and work more effectively with families. I would recommend this training to everyone, thank you Steven for two wonderful days.”

“Steven is awesome! He made the last two days really enjoyable; he really knows his stuff. Thank you, you’re an absolute LEGEND!”

“The training was practical and interactive. I was able to relate with the tasks and the films were really impactful. I would recommend this course to all of my colleagues; I would especially recommend the trainer; Steven.”

“The training was very informative and so so interactive. Just what we needed. Being able to do the tasks and look deeper at the scenarios cemented my learning and helped me to see just why this training is so important.”

“I really enjoyed this training and took an awful lot from it that will impact my practice! THANKS! (Oh and my knowledge of STI’s has drastically improved!)”

“This training has been extremely informative, especially the active listening part in which it will help me when working with children and families. This course will impact the way in which I gather information from the service users.”

“Steven explained Motivational Interviewing in a clear, precise and interactive way. I can’t wait to practice the skills. Thank you SO much.”

“By far the best and most interactive training I have ever attended. Well done Steven!”

“Very interesting and engaging training which went at a great pace. Steven created a learning environment in which everyone’s learning styles could thrive.”

“Excellent training, very engaging, I will definitely be practising my skills when I am next working with my families. I have learned so much on this training.”

“I had a really good time on this training as it was interactive and lots of the training we have had has not been this interactive.”

“Amazing training! The only downside is that you say ‘customer’ sometimes instead of families! However, the training was fantastic!”

“Steven made the training fun and interactive, it was entertaining and clearly made me think about how I am working with the children and young people on my caseload. I will definitely practice the skills going forward.”
